Goal StatementIt’s not enough for me to only teach classes in Language Arts/English in just any public school when there is such a great educational divide going on in third world-like American communities in cities like Detroit and the south and west sides of Chicago. I must be a change-maker!
As a change-maker and educator I plan to direct a series of summer urban educational enrichment academies, and remedial educational training centers for inner-city youth. The enrichment programs are geared toward providing a solid college preparatory course of study, balanced out with exposure to culture such as art and music. The sports activities would be a choice of soccer or golf, for example. Science class would be some degree of aeronautics. Gym would be taught by a professional trainer and tasty but healthy meals would be designed by a nutritionist. Why such an investment? Why not! I am looking for personal and academic “growth” in my students and it cannot be achieved through academics alone, but we must add to that exposure to other experiences. To prepare myself to lead the academies, I believe that it is important to lay a solid academic foundation for myself, for the future academies. So, I am designing my graduate school education to give me the academic wherewithal to take on such a mammoth task. Ideally, I would like to create a hybrid Master’s program with an emphasis on special education, mind & brain science, language & literature, curriculum & instruction, technology in education, learning and teaching and educational leadership & policy. I'm not sure at this point how realistic that will be, nevertheless I will pursue these in my degree program to the level that I can. If it seems that my educational goals are ambitious, I will agree with you and tell you that they must be because of my expectations of a glorious outcome in my academies. That is my goal for Reaching Inspiring Stimulating Exposing - R.I.S.E. Summer Enrichment Academies, USA. | "My mother said I must always be intolerant of ignorance but understanding of illiteracy."
